Petrochemicals & Refining

Catalysts, critical equipment, revamp and turnaround support and process evaluation for refineries and petrochemical complexes.

How we help

How MINCAT works with petrochemicals clients

We help petrochemical and refining clients evaluate hydroprocessing, gas-processing and downstream technologies, and source the catalysts and critical equipment those units depend on.

Refineries and petrochemical complexes operate at a scale where a single exchanger, a catalyst cycle or a turnaround week is worth a project budget elsewhere. Their needs are rarely greenfield: they are revamps, debottlenecking, catalyst changes, replacement of critical equipment and the careful planning of shutdown windows.

MINCAT works with refiners and petrochemical producers on hydroprocessing and hydrogen catalysts, equipment for high-pressure and hydrogen service, turnaround and revamp coordination with qualified engineering and EPC partners, and technology evaluation for new downstream units such as hydrogen, methanol or aromatics.

Typical requirements

Requirements we regularly receive from this industry

  • Catalyst change-out or programme for a hydrotreater, reformer or hydrogen unit
  • Replacement of a critical high-pressure reactor, exchanger or compressor
  • Turnaround scope coordination with external engineering and inspection partners
  • Technology evaluation for a new hydrogen or downstream chemicals unit
  • Debottlenecking study coordination
  • Alternative supplier qualification for adsorbents and guard-bed materials

Technical considerations

What usually decides the outcome in petrochemicals

  • Hydrogen and high-pressure service narrow the field

Manufacturers must demonstrate heavy-wall fabrication, overlay and hydrogen-service testing before they can be considered.

  • Turnaround windows drive everything

Long-lead equipment, catalyst delivery and contractor mobilisation are locked months ahead of the shutdown.

  • Catalyst cycles are planned, not bought

Cycle length, guard-bed strategy and end-of-run conditions determine the right catalyst system and its commercial terms.

MINCAT's role and scope

What we do for petrochemicals clients

Engineering, manufacture, construction and commissioning are delivered by qualified partners under their own contracts. MINCAT coordinates on your side within an agreed scope.

MINCAT scope

Coordination, evaluation and support

  • Catalyst and adsorbent evaluation and sourcing coordination
  • Critical-equipment manufacturer qualification, inspection and expediting coordination
  • Turnaround and revamp partner identification and owner-side coordination
  • Technology and licensor comparison for new downstream units
Commercial and procurement considerations

How engagements are structured

  • Delivery reliability for turnaround scope outweighs price; supplier qualification includes schedule capability.
  • Catalyst programmes are compared on cycle economics, including guard beds and regeneration options.
  • Fees are agreed in advance and are independent of which technology, supplier or contractor is selected.

Frequently asked

Questions we hear about petrochemicals

Do you support turnarounds directly?
MINCAT coordinates the partners — engineering, inspection, equipment and catalyst suppliers — on the owner's side within an agreed scope. Site execution is by the contracted parties.
Can you source spares for legacy equipment?
Yes, through original manufacturers where possible and qualified alternative manufacturers where not.
